Our services
Social Work Services
Intensive work with refugee families was undertaken by The Umma Trust team of social workers
Each family works with a social worker from their language and cultural background and the family develops a goal plan to contribute to their successful settlement.
The work involves each family taking the lead in setting their family goals and being supported by a social worker from their own community to plan steps to meet the goals and achieve transformational and sustainable outcomes for the family.
Over 2021, on their exit from the service, 96% evaluated the service as meeting their goals
Professionalise refugee background women in social work careers
Umma Trust provides professional development training and all the substantial requirements of the Social Work Registration Board for ethnic social workers to become fully registered and to hold the annual practising certificate
This overcomes the long standing pattern of marginalisation of refugee young women with social work degrees never becoming registered, working part-time for the basic wage further marginalising themselves and their children.
Since 2017 Umma Trust has employed and registered seven ethnic social workers from refugee backgrounds including two who are the first Somali social workers to be registered.
Settlement Family Support
The work involves each family taking the lead in setting their family goals and being supported by an ethnic social worker, from their own community to plan steps to meet the personal or family goals. You can work in your language of choice: Amharic, Arabic, Dari, English, Farsi Pashtoo, Somali, Tigryan.
As part of your plan, family members can join any of the Umma Trust programs for free. See our full list of programs
